Gowan: CLIFFHANGER TM SC herbicide (Benzobicyclon) is marketed in California, USA

2023-11-22

Recently, Gowan announced that CLIFFHANGER TM SC herbicide is now available in California for sale and application in the 2024 paddy planting season. The product contains the active ingredient Benzobicyclon, which is used to effectively control various weeds such as reeds in paddy fields, Cyperusalterni-folius and Leptochloa chinensis (L.) Nees, and can replace the existing popular BUTTE® herbicide.

CLIFFHANGER "TM SC" herbicide is a new SC with 3.4 pounds per gallon of Benzobicyclon and an effective herbicide application rate of 8.4 to 10.3 fl oz per acre; For best results, it is recommended to use 1% MSO or its mixture to cover the whole field, including the field and the edge. In addition, the water management guidelines for CLIFFHANGER's herbicide are the same as for BUTTE's herbicide, which requires that a minimum of 4 inches of water should be maintained in the shallowest part of the field at the time of application and for 10 to 14 days after treatment.

"Benzobicyclon has been an effective tool for California rice farmers over the past few years, and the CLIFFHANGER TM SC herbicide offers a new formulation for rice farmers," said Gowan's Director of Marketing.

Benzobicyclon developed by SDS Biotechnology Co., LTD., belongs to the mode of action of non-inhibitory branched chain amino acid synthesis - acetyllactate synthase (ALS), and has significant effect on the sulfonylureas-resistant weeds - broad-leaved weeds and seperes in rice fields. As a selective herbicide, it has a wide range of herbicidal spectrum, slow release effect, and also has the characteristics of a wide treatment period and long lasting effect.
