Market conditions 

Brazil is the world's largest pesticide market and the world's largest pesticide importer. With the growing sustainable agricultural development in Brazil, the agrochemical market in Brazil is growing at a rate of nearly 10% per year, and the Brazilian pesticide market is characterized by high profit margins, high concentration, long account periods, and high registration thresholds. In recent years, pesticide sales in Brazil have maintained a sustained growth momentum, becoming the most attractive market in the world. In addition, because Brazil occupies 46% of the total area of South America, in addition to Chile and Ecuador, and borders all other South American countries, Brazil's market exposure in South America is also very wide. Brazil imports pesticide products mainly from the United States, China and India. China is the largest supplier of pesticide formulations and technicals to Brazil. Brazil is also by far China's largest export market for pesticides.

In recent years, trade in pesticides between Colombia and China has been on the rise. Colombia is the third largest market for Chinese pesticide products exported to South America, after Brazil and Argentina. According to the export data of China's pesticide products in 2020, China's pesticide exports to Colombia were 45,900 tons, with an export value of 224 million US dollars, ranking 12th.

Colombia's domestic pesticide production includes the synthesis of pesticide active ingredients and formulation processing, and more than 50% of the active ingredients of registered products are sourced from China. 

Import demand successively is fungicides, herbicides and insecticides. Many of its imported and domestically produced products are also exported to other countries in South America. In addition, because of the agricultural products produced by South American countries are mainly exported to the United States and the European Union, the use of biopesticides is more advocated in the agricultural development of South America to meet the needs of developed countries for food safety. Many multinational companies have also accelerated the launch of biopesticide products in South America. Relevant data show that the current top ten exporters of biopesticides in China also include Colombia.
