Cibus and Interoc are working together to develop herbicide tolerant varieties for Latin America
Recently, Cibus, Inc. has announced a collaboration agreement with Interoc to provide traits for Interoc's high-quality paddy seed genetics. Interoc will leverage Cibus' technical expertise to market high-performance paddy varieties and their hybrids for the Latin American market, and the program will include herbicide tolerance characteristics to meet existing needs in weed and resistance management, thereby helping to increase yields in areas affected by resistant weeds, including weedy rice.
paddy is one of the main crops of Cibus, and its primary trait is tolerance to two different herbicides - HT1 and HT3. Cibus evaluated the performance of these two herbicide tolerance traits in multi-season, multi-site field trials in the United States, contributing to the rapid development of these traits in Interoc’s paddy germplasm.
Cibus is a leading global gene-editing company that develops gene-edited plant traits and licenses them to seed companies for royalties. It has a unique RTDS™ (Rapid Trait Development System) patented technology. The patented technology, which alters the function of cells in a natural way, is the key to the company's position in the multi-billion dollar agricultural, specialty chemicals and human health markets. Cibus is committed to guiding the market towards sustainable, non-GMO agricultural and industrial products and better human health by enriching natural genetic diversity.
Interoc is a company with more than 25 years of experience in Latin America, specializing in the development of agricultural solutions. Interoc has a strong paddy seed business in Latin American countries and an extensive paddy germline bank. One of its sustainable development goals is to combine its novel superior genes with the latest paddy technology to increase the productivity of farmers in Latin America. The agreement with Cibus will strengthen its strategy to expand its rice trait portfolio.
