The European Commission has announced that it will extend the use of Glyphosate by 10 years. Based on a comprehensive safety assessment conducted by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in conjunction with EU member states, the European Commission has extended the approval period for Glyphosate for a further 10 years (until December 2033, but certain new conditions and restrictions must be observed, such as a ban on the use of Glyphosate before crops are harvested, and certain measures need to be taken to protect non-target organisms.

Member States are responsible for authorising Glyphosate-resistant plants and may restrict their use at national and regional levels if Member States deem a ban necessary on the basis of the results of the risk assessment, particularly in view of the need to protect biodiversity.
