Varnotech Biopharm Secures ¥600 Million in Series B Funding for Vaccine Development
Varnotech Biopharm, a leading innovative biotech company focused on vaccine research and development, has recently announced the successful completion of its Series B funding round, raising a total of ¥600 million. The investment will primarily be utilized to advance the clinical trials of Varnotech Biopharm's herpes zoster and influenza vaccines, as well as the construction of vaccine production and adjuvant manufacturing facilities.
Varnotech Biopharm, a platform-based company specializing in the research, development, and industrialization of self-owned innovative human vaccines and novel adjuvants, has secured significant funding through its recent Series B financing round. The round was led by the Beijing Medical and Health Industry Investment Fund and Mingtai Fund, a subsidiary of Huayin Jin Investment, with participation from Shuimuchunjing Capital, Shunxi Fund under Beijing State-owned Assets Management, Bencao Capital, and Jincheng Fund. BaiRong Capital served as the exclusive financial advisor for this financing.
The ¥600 million raised in this funding round will play a vital role in advancing Varnotech Biopharm's clinical trials for important vaccine candidates such as the herpes zoster vaccine and influenza vaccine. Furthermore, the funds will be allocated towards the establishment of vaccine production facilities and adjuvant manufacturing bases. Varnotech Biopharm has strategically positioned its industrial layout with a "central headquarters and two bases" model. Beijing serves as the company's headquarters and research center, while Chengdu and Taizhou are designated as adjuvant production and vaccine production bases, respectively.
Founded just four years ago, Varnotech Biopharm has achieved significant milestones in its pursuit of vaccine development. The company has successfully secured three rounds of financing, enabling the progression of two pipeline candidates into clinical trials. Additionally, Varnotech Biopharm has obtained a vaccine production license, making it the only domestic company capable of producing novel adjuvants. The company's vaccine portfolio encompasses several preventive vaccine varieties, including herpes zoster and influenza vaccines in clinical research stages, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine in the pilot study phase, and various recombinant protein vaccines in the exploratory study phase.
Varnotech Biopharm's research efforts extend beyond vaccines, encompassing the development of diverse adjuvant products such as liposomes, aluminum-based adjuvants, and water-in-oil adjuvants. Preclinical pharmacological studies have demonstrated that Varnotech Biopharm's adjuvants possess the capability to enhance both cellular and humoral immune responses to antigens more effectively. Presently, Varnotech Biopharm possesses nearly 30 tons of raw materials for adjuvant production, enabling the manufacturing of approximately 30 novel adjuvant varieties.
Mr. Wang Hailong, the founder and chairman of Varnotech Biopharm, expressed gratitude to the investors and friends from various domains for their continuous support and concern. He emphasized the company's commitment to technological innovation in driving the development of high-quality vaccine products. While some challenges have been overcome, Varnotech Biopharm remains dedicated to propelling its rapid growth, contributing to the advancement of China's healthcare industry. The company adheres to its corporate culture of "sincerity wins trust, rigorousness determines quality, diligence leads to achievements, and persistent creation of value," with the vision of becoming a vaccine enterprise equipped with core Chinese technologies.
Varnotech Biopharm's successful completion of its Series B funding round, raising ¥600 million, marks a significant milestone in the company's journey towards vaccine development. With a strong focus on herpes zoster and influenza vaccines, Varnotech Biopharm is well-positioned to make substantial contributions to public health. The funding will not only expedite clinical trials but also facilitate the establishment of state-of-the-art vaccine production and adjuvant manufacturing facilities. Varnotech Biopharm's dedication to technological innovation and commitment to high-quality vaccine development position it as a key player in China's biotech industry.
