Glyphosate obtained the registration of genetically modified crops
On March 29, 2024, the Pesticide Inspection Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued the "Publicity of the third Batch of Pesticide Products to be approved for Registration in 2024", and the Glyphosate herbicides of Nantong Jiangshan and Wynca were registered as biological breeding crops. These two herbicide products are mainly aimed at soybean varieties containing DBN9004 transformation, which marks a new stage of agricultural biological breeding industrialization in China.
DBN9004 was developed by Beijing Dabeinong, which has excellent tolerance to Glyphosate and Glufosinate-ammonium, and solves the problems of poor grass control effect of conventional post-crop herbicides, easy to produce pesticide damage, and residue in the post-crop during soybean production.
Previously, of the 17 GM soybean varieties approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in two batches in 2023 and 2024 (publicity period), 6 soybean varieties contained DBN9004 conversion. This announcement marks that DBN9004 has completed the transformation from trait research and development, variety reserve to pesticide support, becoming the first transgenic product in China to complete the registration of Glyphosate expansion.
Since the pilot of biological breeding industrialization was launched in 2021 in China, Dabeinong has conducted comprehensive test demonstrations in conjunction with many herbicide enterprises such as Nantong Jiangshan and Wynca. The experimental work showed that DBN9004 had good tolerance to Glyphosate and Glufosinate-ammonium, and could fully meet the field application of soybean. The window period of grass control after seedling was extended from V3-V5 of traditional herbicides to the whole growth period, so that the grass control operation was more flexible and convenient.
Through the whole process of experiment and demonstration from planting to harvesting, farmers have realized the transformation from "can not use, dare not use" to "scientific cognition and standardized pesticide use". The three-year pilot work has fully demonstrated the characteristics of DBN9004 conversion, such as good resistance to Glyphosate, high safety and convenient operation, and also reflects the technological leadership and reliability of Dabeinong’s products, which has broad application prospects.
In the context of the current industrialization of agricultural biological breeding, the completion of the registration of the two Glyphosate products is not only a full recognition of the herbicide resistance effect of biologic traits products, but also will further promote the development of agricultural biotechnology in China. This undoubtedly completes the last step of legal pesticide use in biological breeding in China, marking that China has formed a complete agricultural biological breeding industry chain, laying a solid foundation for large-scale industrial applications in the future.
To date, we have obtained two safety certificates for soybean converters (DBN9004 and DBN8002) and four safety certificates for corn converters (DBN9936, DBN3601T, DBN9858 and DBN9501). Dabeinong will work with more partners to accelerate the extension of the industrial chain layout, create a leading enterprise in agricultural biotechnology, promote the industrialization of biological breeding in China, and make greater contributions to the green, efficient and sustainable development of agricultural production in China.
