Sales of these fungicides will exceed $3 billion this year!
In recent years, the succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) class of fungicides has soared from a small number of products to the top three in the fungicide market. And sales are rising year by year and are expected to exceed $3 billion by 2024.
In our in-depth study of the fungicides of succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors, we found that they inhibit the activity of succinate dehydrogenase in the mitochondrial respiratory chain complex II of pathogenic bacteria, block the process of energy metabolism, inhibit its growth and spore formation, so as to achieve the purpose of controlling and preventing crop diseases.
In the process of optimizing the chemical structure of SDHI fungicides, researchers are constantly developing new products that are more efficient and selective. For example, through the introduction of Pyrazole in the Carboxylic Acid part, or structural modification in the Amine part, the activity and adaptability of the product can be significantly improved.
Fluxapyroxad, a Carboxamide fungicide developed by BASF, not only has a broad spectrum of preventive and therapeutic activities, but can effectively prevent and control gray mold, rust, powdery mildew and other diseases caused by a variety of fungi, including Septoria citri Pass, Botrytis cinerea and Powdery mildew on nearly 100 crops such as cereals and soybeans, without carcinogenicity or teratogen. There are no side effects on reproduction, no genotoxicity, neurotoxicity and immunotoxicity, and even the acute toxicity to birds, fish, aquatic invertebrates and bees is low, showing better environmental safety.
It is precisely because new SDHI fungicides have been continuously developed and introduced to the market, and single doses, or compound formulations such as Pyraclostrobin·Fluxapyroxad, and Fluxapyroxad·Epoxiconazole have been added to the scientific rotation and control lineup, which has also effectively slowed down the generation and promotion of resistance.
According to Phillips McDougall, global sales of SDHI fungicides will exceed $3 billion by 2024. In 2011, the first registered in the United Kingdom, Fluxapyroxad, since the listing of market sales continued to grow, in 2015 will surpass the Boscalid to become the first product in the SDHI class of fungicides. Even in 2019, global sales of Fluxapyroxad reached $491 million, and annual peak sales are expected to exceed 60 million euros. It can be predicted that in the $3 billion global sales of SDHI fungicides in 2024, efficient and broad-spectrum Fluxapyroxad will make a greater contribution.
