BASF increases investment in China's Phomera metamaterials
BASF Venture Capital (BVC) announced its investment in Phomera Metamaterials (Phomera) in Series A financing to further promote the development of the photonic crystal metamaterials industry. This investment will be mainly used for Phomera's production capacity expansion, downstream market development and product upgrades.
Phomera Metamaterials Inc., founded in 2015, is a leading research and manufacturing company in the field of photonic crystal metamaterials. Photonic crystal metamaterials are artificial synthetic materials formed by arranging polystyrene (PS), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) or silica microspheres into a periodic structure.
"We are pleased to once again participate in this funding round for Phomera. As the world's leading chemical company, BASF has always been committed to technological innovation and sustainable development. Material innovation lays the foundation for industrial upgrading and social revolution. By investing in Phomera, we are not only contributing to the advancement of cutting-edge technologies, but also actively supporting the transition to a more sustainable future." said Roland Nunheim, Managing Director of BASF Venture Capital.
"We have had high expectations for Phomera's unique technological advantages and product innovation capabilities from the beginning. After last year's investment, Phomera's innovative product business has achieved rapid growth and demonstrated its broad market potential. Therefore, we are committed to continue working with Phomera to advance the development of photonic crystal metamaterials," said Qin Han, head of BASF's Venture Capital China team.
