GlaxoSmithKline Reports Strong Q1 2024 Performance with £7.4 Billion Total Revenue, £2.3 Billion Vaccine Sales

GSK's Q1 financial report showcases a promising start to 2024, with an upward revision of the full-year financial expectations. According to the report released on May 6, the total revenue amounted to £7.4 billion, reflecting a 10% growth when including the COVID-19 portfolio and a 13% growth excluding it. The company witnessed significant progress across its three major sectors, setting a positive tone for the rest of the year.
Vaccine Sales:
Notably, GSK's vaccine segment demonstrated remarkable performance, generating £2.3 billion in sales. The sales of COVID-19 vaccines contributed to a 16% growth when considering the COVID-19 portfolio, and a 22% growth without it. Additionally, GSK's specialty medicines segment recorded sales of £2.5 billion, with a 17% growth including the COVID-19 portfolio and a 19% growth excluding it. The segment also witnessed a 14% growth in HIV portfolio sales. The general medicines segment generated sales of £2.6 billion, reflecting a 1% increase.
Core Operating Profit and Earnings:
GSK's core operating profit for Q1 reached £2.4 billion, showing a 27% growth when including the COVID-19 portfolio and a remarkable 35% growth without it. The earnings per share (EPS) stood at 25.7 pence, representing a 19% decline. However, the core EPS, which excludes the COVID-19 portfolio, experienced a growth of 28%, reaching 43.1 pence. GSK also declared a dividend of 15 pence per share.
Ongoing Research and Development:
The financial report disclosed that GSK currently has 72 vaccines and drugs in its research and development pipeline. Notably, four drugs have shown positive results in Phase III clinical trials. These developments exemplify GSK's commitment to innovation and expanding its portfolio of therapeutic solutions.
