ECHEMI 2024-05-23

Sun Chemical has been honored in the 2024 Flexographic Technology Association (FTA) Flexographic Excellence Awards competition for its SunUno Solimax AP. SunUno Solimax AP is a multi-purpose ink family that enhances packaging sustainability.

SunUno Solimax AP is a highly versatile ink family that provides a single platform that can cover a variety of end-use applications. It is certified by the Austrian TÜV for compostable packaging as "OK Compost". Multipurpose solvent-based inks designed for printing on a variety of plastic films. These products are suitable for exterior and backside printing as well as adhesive lamination.

"Sun Chemical is fully committed to developing sustainable printing solutions, and SunUno Solimax AP is an example of one of our unique products that advances the environmental goals of packaging printers and their brand owner customers," said Dr. Nikola Juhasz, Global Technical Director, Sustainability, Sun Chemical Corporation.“This FTA award is great recognition of the work we are doing to improve sustainability in all aspects of our business and further inspires our journey to develop the next innovation.”

The inks’ applicability across a wide range of printing and packaging applications minimizes or avoids costly and waste-generating press startups and shutdowns. It enables more efficient and sustainable converter operation. Ink inventories are kept to a minimum and press returns can be easily processed, both of which avoid additional waste. Because SunUno Solimax inks are packaged in compostable packaging, less waste ends up in landfills. This demonstrates how ink technology can lead to a more sustainable end-of-life scenario.

At the heart of the development of SunUno Solimax AP is Sun Chemical's commitment to improving the eco-efficiency of printing processes and packaging structures. This latest product exemplifies how Sun Chemical continues to align its goals with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by delivering products with tangible sustainability benefits.

Brad Pareso, president of the Flexographic Printing Technology Association, said:This year’s Sustainability Excellence Awards competition saw more entries than ever before, as sustainability is no longer just a trend but an essential part of the packaging supply chain. "FTA is pleased to recognize Sun Chemical’s commitment to sustainable flexo printing. "

As the packaging industry moves toward greener solutions, SunUno Solimax AP demonstrates Sun Chemical's ongoing dedication to innovation, sustainability and efficiency. This groundbreaking ink system promises to transform packaging printing, making it more responsive to rapidly changing industry needs.
