L Catterton Leads Squared Circles Series A Round
Squared Circles, a consumer-focused venture studio dedicated to incubating science-based brands, announced the closing of a $40 million Series A round led by L Catterton. With the new funding, Squared Circles plans to launch and scale at least five health and wellness brands over the next three years. Previously, L Catterton participated in the company’s seed round, which was led by investors Wildcat Capital Management, LLC and Regeneration VC.
Founded by Alexander Gilkes, Osman Khan and Lukas Derksen, Squared Circles is focused on creating science-backed consumer products in the food, beverage and health and wellness sectors.
Jon Owsley, Managing Partner of L Catterton Growth Fund, said:"We are excited to support Squared Circles, who are creating some of the most forward-thinking and innovative products that use science and artificial intelligence to meet the needs of tomorrow's consumers. Their targeted approach to consumer products, expert understanding of consumer mindsets and behaviors, and seamless integration of science and culture fill an important gap in the market. Squared Circles will lead the next wave of profitable and high-impact innovation for the benefit of people and the planet."
Gilkes, Khan and Derksen have a combined experience of more than 60 years of brand building and have founded eight companies. Squared Circles has built and launched three companies:
Magic Molecule: A skin health solution that recreates hypochlorous acid, a compound naturally produced by white blood cells.
Freaks of Nature: A high-performance skin microbiome brand designed for the 164 million outdoor enthusiasts in the U.S., co-founded by Kelly Slater.
Algae Cooking Club: A healthy oils product derived from microalgae disrupting the $50 billion edible oils end market, co-founded by Daniel Humm of Eleven Madison.
