Agilyx Technology Produces On-Spec Polystyrene in Japan
Agilyx ASA, a technology company that helps customers recycle the most challenging post-consumer plastics into high-value virgin products, is proud to announce that its depolymerization technology was successfully demonstrated during the commissioning of Toyo Styrene’s 10 t/d chemical recycling facility in Japan.
The recycling plant will utilize Agilyx depolymerization technology to convert post-consumer polystyrene into styrene monomer. The styrene monomer will then be converted back into high-value polystyrene products that have a significantly lower carbon footprint than similar products made from virgin monomer.
The facility was completed in March 2024 and the commissioning process started the same year. Last week, polystyrene was successfully depolymerized and converted into on-spec products during the commissioning process. The Toyo Styrene plant showcases Agilyx’s latest generation technology.
Russ Main, interim CEO of Agilyx, said: "Successfully producing on-spec product during the commissioning of the Toyo plant is an exciting milestone. This achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of Agilyx's technology and brings us one step closer to completing the project of Japan's first polystyrene chemical recycling facility."
Agilyx and Toyo will continue to collaborate and optimize the facility over the next few months.
