Basf will launch 24 innovative products in Brazil, including Afidopyropen

2024-06-17

Basf recently announced that it plans to launch six new crop protection active ingredients in the Brazilian market, a move that marks the company's further deepening in the agricultural technology sector. The launch of these new ingredients is expected to result in about 24 new products over the next few years.

Basf invests up to €900 million annually in research and development in the agricultural sector, focusing on the development of new molecules with unique modes of action. These investments are designed to provide Brazilian farmers with truly effective solutions that are not only suited to the needs of Brazilian agriculture, but also focus on improving efficiency and productivity and are combined with sustainability. Basf also highlighted its innovations in financial instruments and barter businesses that help producers manage costs and obtain financing for new production lines to support sustainable development.

In recent years, the active ingredient Revysol (Mefentrifluconazole) launched by BASF has been promoted worldwide, becoming the first IPA fungicide on the market with an exclusive mode of action. In 2023, the ingredient was launched in Brazil with the launch of the related fungicide Belyan for use on cotton and soybean crops.

Revysol's next products in Brazil will be expanded to corn, fruits and vegetables, coffee and other crops, suitable for different growth stages of these crops. Products such as Melyra (Mefentrifluconazole + Pyraclostrobin), Belanty (Mefentrifluconazole), Mibelya (Fluxapyroxad + Mefentrifluconazole) and Keyra (Fenpropimorph + Mefentrifluconazole) are expected to be applied in the next cash crop season.

In the field of insecticides, BASF plans to introduce Vinquo (Afidopyropen), which is mainly used in fruit, vegetables and cotton crops as an important tool for the control of whiteflies, with excellent residual control.

Basf is also preparing to launch important products in the field of biotechnology and traits. For cotton, the company launched Seletio, the largest product launch of the FiberMax cotton seed brand in recent years, which is expected to reach the field in the 2024/2025 season and, combined with TwinLink Plus technology, provides triple protection against major caterpillars attacking cotton crops. In addition, the new herbicide Durance S (Isoxaflutole) will be combined with biotechnology in the seeds to provide triple herbicide protection.

In the soybean product line, BASF's innovative trait platform, which will include traits for controlling nematodes, as well as tolerance to herbicides with different modes of action, is expected to enter Brazil in the next decade.
