BASF launches a new paddy fungicide, 400g/L Mefentrifluconazole in China

2024-06-12

On June 12, 2024, BASF announced the launch in China of a new paddy fungicide, 400g/L Mefentrifluconazole. This fungicidei is the latest IPA triazole fungicide registered on paddy in China in the past 20 years, and its active ingredient Mefentrifluconazole can effectively prevent and treat rice stalk disease, provide farmers with a long-awaited new choice for rice resistance management, and help farmers increase production and income.

Innovative products and solutions are BASF's core competence in crop protection, allowing us to better serve our customers in China. Paddy plays an irreplaceable role in food production in China and the Asia-Pacific region. The birth of 400g/L Mefentrifluconazole symbolizes BASF's long-term commitment to innovation, which breaks the situation of no new ingredients in paddy fungicides for many years. Since 2020, BASF has carried out more than 300 paddy demonstration tests in major paddy-producing provinces in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, including Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Anhui and Zhejiang." Wang Xiang, vice president of BASF and head of the Agricultural Solutions business unit for Greater China, said.

"The listing of fungicide of 400g/L Mefentrifluconazole marks another important step in BASF's milestone in the Chinese market, fulfilling our commitment to provide innovative solutions to Chinese farmers to help them increase production more efficiently." Georgi Bonev, Director of Global Rice Crop Systems at BASF's Agricultural Solutions Business unit.

As an IPA triazole fungicide specially developed for rice, 400g/L Mefentrifluconazole will alleviate the increasingly prominent resistance problem of traditional triazole fungicides in paddy disease management. Since 2020, BASF has worked with China Agricultural University, Nanjing Agricultural University, South China Agricultural University, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other top agricultural research institutions in China, as well as the national agricultural technology extension system, to jointly verify the effectiveness and safety of 400g/L Mefentrifluconazole in the prevention and control of rice diseases. The addition of 400g/L Mefentrifluconazole will further upgrade BASF's paddy crop program and provide growers with new disease management options.

Now, BASF’s active Ingredients have been registered on more than 40 crops in more than 60 countries around the world. Since 2020, BASF has launched a series of sharp fungicides around Mefentrifluconazole in China, to meet the needs of different farmers and harvest more high-quality crops.
