Suntegrity Skincare recalls sunscreen foundation

Suntegrity Skincare has announced a recall of its Suntegrity Impeccable Skin sunscreen foundation. According to the brand's recall announcement, a mold called Aspergillus Sydowii was found in some tinted sunscreens at "higher than acceptable levels."

Nine lots of the sunscreen were recalled "out of an abundance of caution," even though eight other lots tested positive.

Suntegrity has also halted sales of its tinted sunscreen foundation until the cause of the mold contamination is determined.

According to the company’s notification, no adverse events have been reported. However, consumers are advised to stop using the product, which is sold online and in stores.

The report states, "This recall is due to the presence of separation, odor, and common mold (species: Aspergillus Sydowii) growth in some tubes of batch 115BU several months after proper initial batch release testing."

Suntegrity Skincare also said that mold has the potential to cause allergic reactions. Most reactions caused by Aspergillus Sydowii "usually resolve after cleansing the skin and stopping product use. It may also cause primary fungal skin infections if used on open wounds or sunburned skin."
