ZymoChem Launches Bio-Based Super Absorbent Polymer BAYSE
ZymoChem, a leading biotechnology company dedicated to creating sustainable materials for everyday products, is proud to announce the launch of BAYSE, the world’s first scalable, 100% bio-based and biodegradable super absorbent polymer (SAP). This groundbreaking innovation will revolutionize the $145 billion global hygiene industry and pave the way for a more sustainable future.
BAYSE is a direct replacement for traditional fossil fuel-based SAPs, a key ingredient in disposable absorbent hygiene products such as baby diapers. Unlike petroleum-derived polyacrylates, BAYSE is made from renewable resources, has a lower carbon footprint, and readily biodegrades, addressing the environmental impact of 300,000 diapers going to landfill or being incinerated every minute.

ZymoChem's proprietary technology platform enables BAYSE to be produced at a cost comparable to traditional SAPs, ensuring sustainability is achieved at no additional cost. With a mission to create positive environmental impact and inspire change across industries, ZymoChem's BAYSE also has additional applications in industries such as agriculture, cosmetics, and water treatment. Microplastics generated by fossil-based petroleum SAPs have been a concern for these industries, and BAYSE is a high-performance, microplastic-free alternative.
ZymoChem recently raised $21 million in Series A funding to accelerate the commercialization of BAYSE.
