Worley to Provide Proprietary Sulfuric Acid Technology to OCP
OCP SA (OCP) has issued a notice of award to Worley Chemetics for three new sulphuric acid plants at its Mzinda Phosphate Hub (MPH) in Morocco. The notice of award is subject to contract signing.
Under the contract, Worley Chemetics will provide proprietary sulphuric acid technology and processes and proprietary equipment, as well as detailed engineering, procurement and consulting field services. Worley Chemetics’ services will be provided through its offices in Vancouver and a dedicated manufacturing facility near Toronto, Canada. Worley has categorised this contract as sustainable work, in accordance with Worley’s definition of sustainability-related work.
Worley Chemetics’ sulphuric acid technology produces more electricity than other technologies and emits no carbon dioxide, resulting in lower stack emissions. Air cooling will be used to conserve and reduce water usage at the plant. Worley Chemetics’ proprietary CES-ALPHA™ system will be used to recover low-grade heat as steam to achieve maximum heat recovery.
The OCP MPH project is part of OCP’s Green Investment Program. The plan is aligned with Morocco’s energy transition strategy, with OCP aiming to sustainably increase its annual fertilizer production capacity from 12 million tonnes to 20 million tonnes by 2027, using clean energy and non-conventional water resources.
“We are delighted to continue supporting OCP with our proprietary sulfuric acid technology, in line with our purpose of building a more sustainable world,” said Chris Ashton, CEO of Worley.
