AkzoNobel launches Selva Pro range of industrial wood coatings

AkzoNobel has launched the Selva Pro range of 2K polyurethane and acrylic coating systems for the professional and industrial woodworking community. The systems will be part of the Chemcraft® Wood Coatings portfolio, inspired by the rich tradition and craftsmanship of trusted Italian formulations. Backed by decades of industry expertise and R&D, the Selva Pro range offers proven all-round performance in terms of drying time, sanding, hardness, chemical resistance and pot life. All elements of the new systems are manufactured in a modern North American facility using high-quality raw materials and subject to strict quality assurance standards.

The Selva Pro range consists of three systems, Selva Pro Chiaro and Selva Pro Bianco are both high-strength, high-solids, clear and pigmented 2K polyurethane systems that provide wood with strong protection against wear and moisture, ideal for areas such as kitchens and bathrooms. Both are durable and soft to the touch, with formaldehyde-free formulas and minimal odor. They use the same hardener and all have a 2:1 mix ratio, further reducing complexity for users. Selva Pro Bianco also offers unlimited color opportunities and excellent color stability when used with a neutral base, especially in lower gloss finishes.

The third system, Selva Pro Acrilico, is a 2K acrylic system. Its smooth formula enhances wood grain and is ideal for expressive and/or high-quality wood types. Acrilico is available in a variety of finish options: Tinted Topcoat; Neutral Topcoat; Clear Topcoat; Clear “Naturale” Topcoat, and like Selva Pro Bianco, Acrilico Neutral Topcoat offers excellent color stability when used with a neutral basecoat.

Bilal Salahudin, regional commercial director for Finishes Americas, believes the Selva Pro range will be transformative for the woodworking community: “Careful development and thorough testing have resulted in a range that is superior, all-around performance, and easy to use and produces beautiful results,” he says.

Sarah Skinner, director of product marketing for wood finishes, says the introduction of the Selva Pro system will ease many of the challenges currently faced by end users: “The compact selection of hardeners in the Selva Pro line and simple, consistent mixing ratios means that inventory management is streamlined, product training is easy, and application is accurate and reliable,” she says.

“With a vast color database, coupled with our color technology tools, including proprietary color software MaestroHue, and compatible equipment, end users can quickly achieve any color imaginable through our network while achieving accurate color. Our Selva Pro product cans are designed to be fully compatible with standard paint shakers, making it one of the few polyurethane lines currently available that can be conveniently mixed using a standard paint shaker,” she says.

These systems offer substantial protection, durability, aesthetics, and design freedom, making them ideal for a variety of uses, from commercial applications such as architectural millwork and retail store renovations to residential projects such as kitchens and bathrooms. They are also an ideal solution for applications such as yacht interiors, musical instruments, hockey sticks, and pool cues.
