Carbon groups make up the basic proteins, nucleic acids, pyrimidines, purines, and other substances that have different roles in living organisms and control one's metabolism. The activity of carbon-based molecules ensures that chemical reactions in the body can take place promptly, and also promotes genetic evolution and mutation in organisms.
3.All living things in nature are carbon-based organisms
As long as they are a kind of organism, they must obtain energy from the outside world to maintain their survival. The basic compounds for storing energy of carbon-based organisms are carbohydrates, in which complex polymer compounds can be formed due to the equal ability of carbon atoms to gain and lose electrons. After a series of reactions, they release energy and produce water and carbon dioxide, which maintains the basic metabolism of living things. The highest amount of carbon, accounting for 55.99 percent, is found in the dry weight of cells, which further emphasizes its importance in living organisms.
Can silicon replace carbon as the core element of life?
