EU Evaluates Authorization Update Application for Levilactobacillus Brevis DSM 16680 as Feed Additive for All Animal Species
On August 1, 2024, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) announced that it has completed a comprehensive assessment of the application for renewal of the authorisation of Levilactobacillus brevis DSM 16680 as a full range of animal feed additives.
During the evaluation process, a panel of experts composed of professional elites, after careful analysis and discussion, finally reached a consensus: under established and legal conditions of use, this additive has demonstrated unquestionable safety for all animal breeds, consumers and the ecological environment. It is worth noting that since this is only an authorized update assessment, it does not involve a reconsideration of its specific efficacy.
EFSA clearly states that the series of evidence submitted by the applicant fully confirms that the additive currently in circulation on the market has strictly complied with and complied with the requirements of the existing authorization terms. In particular, EFSA's Expert Group on Animal Feed Additives and Products or Substances (FEEDAP) has taken the same position, reaffirming the positive role of the additive in safeguarding the health of all animal breeds, consumers and ecological safety. However, on a specific level related to user safety, the Panel also cautiously pointed out that the additive has the potential to cause eye irritation and the potential to become a skin and respiratory allergen, so special attention should be paid to its use.
This detailed and authoritative report undoubtedly provides a solid and scientific basis for the EU to formulate relevant policies in the future. In this regard, many experts and practitioners in the industry have said that this move not only highlights the EU's great attention to food safety and environmental protection, but also opens up a broader prospect for the wide application of Lactobacillus brachybacillus DSM 16680 in the field of animal feed additives, indicating that it will have a more brilliant development space in the future market.
