Procter & Gamble Voluntarily Recalls Selected Old Spice and Secret Aerosol Products Due to Detection of Benzene

ECHEMI 2024-08-20

The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) has announced a voluntary recall of specific lots of Old Spice and Secret Aerosol antiperspirants, including Old Spice Below Deck products, due to the detection of benzene, a known human carcinogen. The recall affects products sold in the United States with a best before date of September 2023.

The P&G recall involves a range of aerosol products and provides UPC codes for consumers to identify the affected products. Although the company has assured that the levels of benzene detected do not pose an adverse health risk based on EPA assessments, the company is recalling the products out of an abundance of caution. To date, no adverse events have been reported. P&G is also offering reimbursement to consumers who purchased the affected products and has directed retailers to remove the products from their shelves.

This proactive step highlights P&G's commitment to consumer safety and regulatory compliance. Even trace amounts of benzene exposure can lead to serious health risks, prompting the company to take swift action to prevent potential harm.
