Infinium supplies Borealis with eNaphtha feedstock for polyolefin production
Infinium and Borealis have entered into an agreement to produce low-carbon footprint plastics created from waste carbon dioxide (CO 2) that would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere. These plastics, known as polyolefins, are commonly used to make consumer goods, including packaging, appliances, clothing and medical devices.
“Many people don’t realize that countless plastic products we use every day come from fossil-based ingredients,” said Robert Schuetzle, CEO of Infinium. “With Infinium eNaphtha, Borealis will create plastics with an ultra-low carbon footprint for customers and end consumers seeking more sustainable, environmentally friendly alternatives.”
As the world’s first commercial-volume supplier of eNaphtha, a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil-based naphtha, Infinium is helping to decarbonize plastic production and reduce harmful CO 2 emissions worldwide.
Produced at the company’s Project Pathfinder facility in Corpus Christi, Texas, commercial quantities of Infinium eNaphtha are shipped to Borealis’ Porvoo facility in Finland, which provides advanced and sustainable polyolefin solutions to its manufacturing customers. The world’s first commercial quantities of eNaphtha were shipped from the United States in May.
Plastics made from Infinium eNaphtha can be produced using the same facilities and manufacturing equipment as traditional naphtha-based products and recycled in the same way, and have been awarded ISCC PLUS certification by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) body.

The unique partnership and supply chain development between Infinium and Borealis is an example of how innovators are collaborating to find novel solutions to meet the growing consumer demand for circularity and defossilization.
