New Czech Food Import Regulations 235/2024: Apple, Potato, and Other Food Imports Will Be 50% More Difficult Starting in September!

ECHEMI 2024-08-30

On August 26, 2024, the Czech Agricultural and Food Inspection Agency issued an important notice to the public. According to the notice, starting from September 1, 2024, a new regulation, Regulation 235/2024, will come into effect. The new regulation is an amendment to the original regulation 172/2015, mainly related to the relevant requirements of imported food information registration.

Specifically, regulation 235/2024 focuses on several food categories such as apples, potatoes, and dietary supplements. According to the provisions of the Regulation, importers or distributors must declare and register information with the competent authorities when importing or selling these categories of food products from other EU countries or third countries for the first time. In addition, the regulations detail the information that must be provided, including the type of food, the quantity, the country of origin, the importer and exporter, and the date of arrival.

The main purpose of the revision is to narrow the list of relevant food types, making the requirements for the registration of imported food information more clear and specific. With this revision, the Czech Agricultural and Food Inspection Agency hopes to be able to better regulate the quality and safety of imported food products, ensuring the health and interests of consumers.
