Olon acquires Huvepharma Italia
Olon continues its growth momentum and increases its total production capacity with the acquisition of Huvepharma Italia and its plant in Garessio, Cuneo, in northwestern Italy.
The acquisition involves the full operational integration of Huvepharma Italia and a plan to restore the production potential of the Garessio plant and bring it to full capacity through the development of new business opportunities.
With this acquisition, the chemical-pharmaceutical group, focused on the production and development of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), now has nine manufacturing plants in Italy alone, with a total reaction capacity of 3,250 m3. The Group has become one of the most important industrial players in Italy and Europe in terms of size and production potential, in terms of its presence, the scope of its manufacturing network and the volume of its installations.
Located in Garessio, Huvepharma Italia is dedicated to the development, industrialization, chemical synthesis production and marketing of pharmaceutical active ingredients, as well as advanced intermediates.
The company and its plants are well-known players in the pharmaceutical chemicals market, with extensive experience in the development and production of APIs and in following the introduction and adoption of new technologies. For example, half of the production lines at the Garessio plant are fully automated and in recent years the plant has developed the production of an important antimalarial product through advanced photo-oxidation technology and the manufacture of nanoparticles.
The plant was formerly owned by Sanofi and since 2016 by Huvepharma Italia Srl, part of the Huvepharma EOOD Group.
Since its creation, the Olon Group has been pursuing a strategy of growth, consolidation and expansion in global markets, both internal and external, through acquisitions. From time to time, the company's offering has been enriched by the expertise of acquired companies, thus increasing competitiveness. In order to fully continue this strategy and in order to expand its production potential and therefore its share in the global active ingredients market, Olon has acquired Huvepharma Italia.
The purpose of this transaction is to strengthen and expand the product offering, focusing on the most strategic areas. The acquisition of Huvepharma Italia is an important step forward in terms of capacity growth. The plan envisages the integration and value-added of all assets: facilities, workforce and product portfolio.
Paolo Tubertini, CEO of the Olon Group, said: "We see all the right characteristics in Huvepharma Italia. This acquisition supports the implementation of the Group's medium- and long-term strategy and the achievement of its business objectives. We will leverage the integration with Olon's existing manufacturing network, which already includes 12 sites and 7 integrated and connected research centers around the world, as well as our consolidated customer portfolio, which includes all the major pharmaceutical companies in the market, and our excellent reputation as a partner and API supplier. The goal of this transaction is to significantly increase our overall API production capabilities by unlocking the potential of the Garessio site."
