The Growth Code Behind the ¥13.4 Billion Epoxy Chloropropane Market
Epichlorohydrin, as a vital chemical intermediate, plays an indispensable role in many fields such as epoxy resins, antifreeze agents, pesticides and pharmaceuticals. Its market development is deeply affected by multiple factors such as macroeconomic situation and downstream market demand. According to the "2024-2029 China epichlorohydrin Industry market In-depth research and Strategic Consulting Analysis Report" revealed that from 2015 to 2022, China's epichlorohydrin market size showed an overall upward trend, and the market size reached 13.484 billion yuan in 2022, an increase of 2.24%. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, the epichlorohydrin raw material market has experienced frequent fluctuations, and the market price has also fluctuated accordingly. However, since the second half of 2020, thanks to the strong downstream demand, epichlorohydrin production and sales are booming, and product prices have risen significantly, and the average price of epichlorohydrin market in China in 2022 is about 14,756 yuan/ton.
Epichlorohydrin (ECH), as a key component of organic chemical raw materials, is mainly used in the production of epoxy resins. China's epichlorohydrin production capacity accounts for about half of the world's total production capacity, ranking first in the world. Market prices vary by region, brand and other factors. For example, in Shandong Province, the price of epichlorohydrin fluctuates between 7,400 yuan and 8,500 yuan/ton, and the price is affected by quality, manufacturers and market supply and demand conditions. From the recent price trend analysis, the epichlorohydrin market price is relatively stable, but regional and time differences lead to price fluctuations. Overall, the relationship between supply and demand has a significant impact on prices, with prices rising when supply is tight and falling when supply is loose.
The epichlorohydrin market is expected to face a broader development prospect. On the one hand, the recovery of the global economy will promote the growth of the downstream industry, which will increase the demand for epichlorohydrin. On the other hand, the continuous strengthening of environmental protection policies will encourage enterprises to increase environmental protection investment and improve product quality and environmental performance. In addition, the continuous progress of scientific and technological innovation will further expand the application field of epichlorohydrin.
In recent years, the production capacity of China's epichlorohydrin industry has continued to grow steadily, and it is expected that the compound growth rate of production capacity will remain at the level of about 8.1% from 2020 to 2024, fully showing the strong development momentum of China's epichlorohydrin industry. At present, the inventory of domestic epichlorohydrin production enterprises is maintained at a reasonable level, mainly focusing on the fulfillment of current contract orders. Although routine parking maintenance is planned at some regional production plants, the impact on the overall market supply and demand pattern is expected to be relatively limited.
China's epichlorohydrin market consumption is relatively concentrated, and the downstream is mainly used in epoxy resin production, accounting for about 90%. The downstream application of epoxy resin is mainly powder coatings and electronic appliances, which together account for about 70%. Therefore, the production status of the epoxy resin industry has a decisive impact on the demand for epichlorohydrin.
Although the epoxy resin industry faces the challenge of overcapacity and the growth rate of epichlorohydrin consumption has slowed down, the consumption of epichlorohydrin in other downstream industries such as chlorohydrin rubber, TGIC, solvents, stabilizers, surfactants, flame retardants, oilfield chemicals and water treatment agents has remained relatively stable, with an average annual growth rate of between 2% and 3%. The situation of epichlorohydrin market supply and demand shows that the production can continue to increase and the downstream demand is relatively stable. The future market development trend will be affected by multiple factors such as capacity changes, downstream demand growth, and policy environment.
