271,000 cubic meters! The world's largest LNG ship! Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has won another order for 6 new LNG ships from Qatar Energy
On September 9, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) signed an agreement with Qatar Energy Company, under which its wholly-owned subsidiary Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding will undertake the construction of 6 state-of-the-art QC-Max vessels, the largest LNG ships ever built, each with a capacity of 271,000 cubic meters. These new advanced transport ships are scheduled to be delivered between 2028 and 2031.
Qatar Energy and China State Shipbuilding Corporation executives and several senior Chinese government officials attended the signing ceremony.
Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al-Thani, CEO of Qatar Energy LNG, said at the ceremony: "The agreement signed today highlights the strategic importance of Qatar Energy's historic LNG fleet expansion plan and its commitment to maintaining its leadership in the global LNG market. We are very pleased to expand our excellent cooperation with China State Shipbuilding Corporation and Hudong-Zhonghua, one of the world's top shipyards. We look forward to receiving these advanced LNG vessels and enhancing our clean energy supply capabilities."
The six QC-Max vessels ordered this time are another new order after Qatar Energy recently ordered 18 QC-Max vessels from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard. This brings the total number of QC-Max vessels ordered by Qatar Energy to 24, with a total value of approximately US$8 billion.
The QC-Max vessels manufactured by Hudong-Zhonghua adopt the latest generation of twin skeg lines and are equipped with a number of low-carbon and digital technologies and equipment. They are classified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). This will enhance Qatar Energy's ability to meet the growing global demand for LNG, while strengthening its implementation of operational excellence and environmental sustainability. These vessels are more fuel efficient, have lower carbon emissions and are designed to meet the highest safety and environmental standards, representing a major step forward in sustainable innovation.
