NEXTCHEM awarded contract to supply catalysts for maleic anhydride plant in Oman

ECHEMI 2024-09-25

MAIRE announced that NEXTCHEM (Sustainable Technology Solutions), through its subsidiary CONSER, has won a contract from Al Baleed Petrochemical Company (ABP).

The contract covers the technology license, process design package and catalyst supply for the maleic anhydride plant located in the Salalah Free Zone in Oman.

The plant, part of a chemical park developed by ABP for the value chain of LPG, methanol and ammonia, will produce 50,000 tons per year of maleic anhydride, an intermediate used in the production of biodegradable plastics.

The scope of work includes the licensing of CONSER's proprietary maleic anhydride technology and the process design package, as well as technical assistance during the project execution until commissioning and start-up. In addition, CONSER will supply the associated catalysts.

The project is an important step for Oman to become a key player in the biodegradable plastics market, leveraging the logistics hub of the Salalah Free Zone to serve the petrochemical and natural materials processing sectors.

Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE, commented: “This contract consolidates MAIRE’s global leadership in the field of maleic anhydride and its derivatives technology, confirming our role as a technology enabler in a strategic geographical area.”
