Cepsa launches NextLab Low Carbon for biodegradable detergents
Cepsa Química has just launched its new product, NextLab Low Carbon, for Europe and Asia. The production process of NextLab Low Carbon uses renewable heat energy instead of traditional fossil fuels, thus reducing factory emissions during the production process.
This process, a pioneer in chemistry, allows obtaining products with the same characteristics, quality, performance and performance as traditional LAB, but with lower greenhouse gas emissions, making it more environmentally friendly than products produced with fossil fuels.
Specifically, according to the "cradle to gate" product carbon footprint comparison promoted by the company, NextLab LowCarbon has 19% lower greenhouse gas emissions than LAB produced with fossil energy.
In 2023, Cepsa Química first produced NextLab Low Carbon in its Canadian plant for the US market. Now, the company will start producing the product for the first time in its Puente Mayorga plant for the European and Asian markets. The plant, located in southern Spain, is one of the most important in the global chemical industry and the first in the world to feature the innovative Detal Flex 2-phenyl technology, which improves plant efficiency and safety while increasing sustainability, reducing environmental impact and optimizing LAB production.
Carlos Molina, Vice President Global Surfactants, said that producing Nextlab Low Carbon for the European and Asian markets "means working even closer with our customers, thus meeting the needs of those seeking to accelerate decarbonization and produce detergents with less environmental impact. It is also a step towards achieving Cepsa Química's environmental and decarbonization goals. These goals are reflected in the Positive Motion strategy, through which we want to develop green and sustainable chemistry and enable us to achieve climate neutrality by 2050".
Cepsa Química is the world's leading producer of lactic acid bacteria, the most widely used product in the production of biodegradable detergents, accounting for about 18% of global production. More than 60% of biodegradable detergents on the market, both for household and industrial use, use lactic acid bacteria in their formulations.
