Global African Swine Fever Outbreak in September 2024: 484 Cases, Multiple Countries Affected!
According to the official outbreak notification issued by the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas, incomplete statistics conducted by the Food Partnership Network show that during September 2024, a total of 484 African swine fever outbreaks were reported worldwide, including 260 cases involving domestic pigs and 224 cases involving wild pigs.
The African swine fever outbreak has affected a number of countries, including Italy, Romania, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, South Africa, Moldova, Germany, South Korea, Bhutan and Serbia.
For country-specific outbreak information in September, the following is a summary:
* Ukraine reported a total of 10 cases of African swine fever in pigs on 2, 4, 9, 10, 13 and 18 and 20 September.
* Bhutan reported an outbreak of African swine fever in pigs on 3 September.
* South Korea reported an outbreak of African swine fever in pigs on September 4.
* Italy reported three cases of African swine fever in wild boars and five pigs on 4 September and another six cases in wild boars and five pigs on 18 and 19 September.
* Germany reported three cases of African swine fever in wild boar on 4 September, followed by eight new cases on 13 September.
* South Africa reported 1 cases of African swine fever in pigs on 9 and 17 September respectively.
* Romania reported 5 cases of wild boar, 9 cases of pig and 4 cases of pig on 9, 13 and 20 September respectively.
* Hungary reported 9 and 8 cases of African swine fever in wild boar on 10 and 17 September respectively.
* Moldova reported an outbreak of African swine fever in pigs on 19 September.
* Poland reported 84 cases of wild boar and 1 case of wild boar, 66 cases of wild boar and 3 cases of wild pig on 20 and 30 September respectively.
* Serbia reported 32 cases of African swine fever in wild pigs and 218 cases in pigs on 30 September.
