Toray Advanced Composites Acquires Colorado Thermoplastics Manufacturer

Toray Advanced Composites, a leader in advanced materials technology, has announced a strategic expansion of its continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites business through the acquisition of the assets, technology and intellectual property of Gordon Plastics, Inc., based in Englewood, Colorado. The acquisition enables Toray to increase its development, testing and production capabilities for continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic unidirectional tapes, particularly enhancing its ability to handle high temperature polymer systems.

The acquisition includes a 47,000 square foot state-of-the-art production facility located near Denver, Colorado, which will now serve as a satellite R&D and production center under the Toray Advanced Composites umbrella. With this facility, Toray gains additional resources and expertise to support growing demand in areas such as sporting goods, oil and gas, and various industrial applications. In addition, the experienced team at Gordon Plastics joins Toray, bringing valuable experience and production knowledge to help accelerate the company’s market growth.

The Englewood facility is well positioned to offer a broad line of continuous fiber reinforced composite tape products. These products are available in a variety of high-performance matrix options, including PEI (Ultem™), PPS, PES, PESU, PA6 and PA11, reinforced by a variety of glass and carbon fiber types. Toray’s sales and technical teams are well-positioned to provide comprehensive customer support with information on material samples, product availability, pricing and technical specifications to meet specific project requirements.
