Evonik invests more than 10 million euros to expand specialty amine production capacity in Nanjing

ECHEMI 2024-11-12

On November 8, Evonik broke ground on the expansion of its specialty amine plant in Nanjing, China, and the construction project is expected to be completed in 2026.

Evonik said the company will invest tens of millions of euros in this expansion to enhance its amine product portfolio by acquiring cost-effective raw materials. By increasing production in China, the company will enhance competitiveness, improve market efficiency and optimize the production network.

Evonik pointed out that the Nanjing plant uses green electricity and specializes in the production of amine-based additives for industries such as construction, automobiles and furniture. These additives play an important catalytic role in the formation of polyurethane foams, and innovative catalysts can also reduce odor and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

"The groundbreaking of our new specialty amines plant demonstrates Evonik's strategic focus on expanding production capacity in Asia and our confidence in Asia's potential," said Claudine Mollenkopf, head of Evonik's Specialty Additives division. "China is crucial to both our regional and global business strategy as a competitive production center."

Roberto Vila-Keller, head of the Comfort & Insulation business line, added: "By expanding our production capacity in China, together with our other plants in Japan and Singapore, we are better positioned to meet the growing demand for sustainable polyurethane additives in the region."

Evonik said the expansion is in line with its strategy to enhance competitiveness by leveraging cost-effective production sites in China.
