Covestro and Selena launch innovative adhesive for bricklaying

ECHEMI 2024-12-11

German materials manufacturer Covestro and global construction materials distributor Poland’s Selena Group continue their partnership to create a sustainability pioneer in the construction industry.

With Tytan Professional bricklaying adhesive, the partners have launched an innovative new product that significantly reduces the environmental impact and reduces the carbon footprint by up to 90% compared to traditional cement mortar.

For the highly competitive construction industry, the product sold by Selena has clear advantages in that it can be used with various types of blocks (ceramic, silicate, ACC) with high precision and in higher yields compared to traditional cement mortars . The product cures twice as fast as traditional cement mortar, improving construction efficiency. Additionally, it can be used in a wide operating temperature range from -5 degrees Celsius to +30 degrees Celsius, which helps reduce temperature-related shutdowns.

"Materials play a decisive role in achieving climate neutrality and a circular economy. If material suppliers early in the value chain join forces to achieve climate neutrality, the impact on the end product can be huge. In this spirit, we are very pleased to deepen our collaboration with like-minded partner Selena to help the construction industry lower emissions and achieve its climate neutrality goals in Europe and globally," said Bernd Hennig, Head of MDI Trading Cluster EMEA at Covestro.

"With existing and upcoming climate neutrality regulations in the construction industry, we expect the demand for sustainable building materials to rise sharply. By working with great partners like Covestro, we are jointly driving innovation in the building materials industry. We both believe that innovative products can play an important role in achieving climate neutrality goals and put us at the forefront."

Tytan professional bricklaying adhesive uses Covestro's Desmodur CQ MB, a bio-based MDI (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate) in which the plant-based raw materials are mathematically attributed to the end product via a mass balance method certified to the ISCC Plus standard.
