China 2025 Tariff Adjustments: Promoting Imports and Openness
Effective January 1, the Chinese government will implement a series of tariff adjustments to promote the import of high-quality products, expand domestic demand, and enhance high-level openness. The Ministry of Finance announced in an official statement that various categories of import tariffs will be adjusted, including reductions in tariffs on ethane and certain recycled copper and aluminum raw materials to support green and low-carbon development.
Additionally, the Ministry of Commerce indicated that 935 items will have provisional import tariffs lower than the Most Favored Nation rate, facilitating related product imports. Tariffs on items such as molasses and sugar premix powders will increase, while tariffs on cycloolefin polymers, ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymers, and specialized vehicle automatic transmissions will decrease.
Further tariff reductions will apply to sodium zirconium silicate, CAR-T tumor therapy viral vectors, and nickel-titanium alloy wires for surgical implants. The Ministry of Commerce also announced that the China-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement will take effect on January 1, bringing corresponding tariff reductions.
