ChainCraft and Royal Avebe Partner to Extract High-Value Fatty Acids from Potato Juice

ECHEMI 2025-01-03

ChainCraft, Amsterdam-based specialist in the production of circular chemicals, and Royal Avebe, a leader in potato starch and protein innovation, have announced a collaboration to transform Avebe’s surplus potato juice into high-value circular fatty acids using ChainCraft’s fermentation technology.

According to the companies, the technology enables the use of organic waste streams to replace fossil feedstocks and palm oil as raw materials, helping to reduce CO2 emissions and conserve biodiversity by preventing deforestation. This in turn supports manufacturers of specialty chemicals, flavors, fragrances, etc. in achieving their climate goals.

David Fousert, CEO of Royal Avebe, commented: "This collaboration ensures greater circularity while also saving energy. It helps to create further efficient production processes. For the Northern Netherlands, this collaboration means a more sustainable agricultural sector and region. It also brings more jobs to the North."

"ChainCraft's mission is to drive the transition to a circular bioeconomy and this collaboration with Avebe is an important milestone. Our fermentation technology is ideally suited to convert residual streams into high-quality raw materials and working with a forward-looking partner like Avebe allows us to scale up this process to a first-of-its-kind plant and demonstrate the full potential of our innovative solution."

"This is the first of several commercial milestones we will achieve in the coming period, as we initiate the financing process for our first full-scale plant and further define the details of the long-term collaboration."

According to the companies, this collaboration not only underscores their commitment to sustainability, but also sets a benchmark for how industry players can solve environmental challenges through innovative collaboration.
