Sanofi Pays $275 Million for Alloy's Breakthrough CNS Drug Development

ECHEMI 2025-01-08

Alloy Therapeutics announced a specific target collaboration and licensing agreement with Sanofi focused on central nervous system (CNS) targets. This agreement involves Alloy's innovative and proprietary AntiClastic Antisense platform. Sanofi will leverage its expertise in neuroscience to collaborate with Alloy in delivering therapeutic drugs to the brain, aiming to develop new genetic drugs that can cross the blood-brain barrier.

Sanofi will pay Alloy up to $27.5 million in upfront licensing fees and recent preclinical milestone payments. Additionally, Alloy is eligible to receive over $400 million in discovery, development, and commercialization milestone payments, as well as tiered royalties on product sales resulting from this collaboration. This partnership highlights the commitment of both parties to advance innovative therapeutic drugs in the CNS field.

Notably, Sanofi sold 11 mature CNS products in 2023, including therapies for mental health, anxiety, epilepsy, and antipsychotics.

Alloy's AntiClastic Antisense platform enables drug developers to target intracellular disease targets at the RNA level, fully tapping into the potential of antisense therapeutic drugs. This platform addresses the limitations of current antisense therapies in therapeutic index. The technology platform was launched by Alloy in 2023 after exclusively licensing its underlying intellectual property, developed by Sudhir Agrawal of Arnay Sciences, which features a novel oligonucleotide spatial conformation.

“We are very pleased to establish this milestone licensing agreement with a global leader in medical innovation, Sanofi,” said Errik Anderson, CEO and founder of Alloy Therapeutics. “As we began our collaboration with renowned leader Dr. Agrawal in the field of antisense therapeutics, integrating his groundbreaking work into Alloy's genetic drug platform, we are confident in its potential to revolutionize antisense drug development and reshape the broader drug discovery landscape. This partnership exemplifies Alloy’s flexible, multi-modal approach, providing our partners with a comprehensive suite of discovery solutions and access to novel platforms to accelerate the development of the most effective therapeutic drugs for patients in need.”
