LyondellBasell Reports $1.87 Loss Per Share in Q4 Amid Strategic Growth Plans
LYB(LyondellBasell) has announced a net loss of $603 million for the fourth quarter of 2024, translating to a loss of $1.87 per share. This quarter, the company recognized $852 million in after-tax charges impacting earnings, primarily due to non-cash asset impairments in its olefins and high-performance materials segments. CEO Peter Vanacker expressed pride in the company’s ability to generate $3.8 billion in cash flow from operations, highlighting a 90% cash conversion rate.
Despite the challenging market conditions, LYB reported a 65% increase in sales from its circular and low-carbon solutions (CLCS) segment. The company is focused on executing its three-pillar strategy while returning $1.9 billion to shareholders through dividends and stock buybacks.
Looking ahead, LYB aims to navigate the current market volatility by closely monitoring macroeconomic factors that could enhance consumer demand and drive economic recovery. The company is adjusting its operational rates in response to global demand, with expectations for improved performance across its product lines in 2025.
