Polyplastics Launches New Plastron Based on Environmentally Friendly Recycled Polypropylene Resin

ECHEMI 2025-02-17

Polyplastics, a leading global engineering plastics company, has launched Plastron LFT RA627P, an environmentally friendly composite material composed of polypropylene (PP) resin and long cellulose fibers, which features low density, high specific stiffness, high impact strength and excellent damping properties for a range of applications such as audio components and industrial component housings.

The development of Plastron LFT RA627P reinforces Polyplastics' commitment to reduce the environmental impact of its materials and achieve a sustainable society. Due to its recycled cellulose fiber content, Plastron RA627P has a reduced carbon footprint, which is approximately 30% less than 30% short glass fiber reinforced PP resin.

The new LFT is a composite material composed of PP resin and continuous 30% equal-length, co-oriented cellulose fibers, which have high strength and elasticity due to unique spinning conditions and polymerization of the cellulose raw material.

Plastron RA627P has a density approximately 10% lower than 30% short glass fiber reinforced PP resin while maintaining approximately the same flexural modulus. The material also has a higher specific stiffness than 30% short glass fiber reinforced PP resin while having a larger loss factor.

The properties of high specific stiffness and large loss factor typically have an inverse relationship, but PLASTRON® RA627P strikes a perfect balance between these properties, making it suitable for audio device components that require this balance, such as speaker diaphragms.
Polyplastics is developing new grades made from recycled PP resin that could further reduce carbon footprint levels while expanding its Plastron LFT portfolio to meet growing market demand.
