Lanxess Launches India Application Development Center to Boost Innovation and Customer Service
On February 14, 2025, specialty chemicals company Lanxess officially inaugurated its India Application Development Center (IADC) in Thane, Mumbai, aiming to enhance its innovation and customer service capabilities. This strategic move underscores Lanxess's commitment to viewing India as a pivotal market and innovation hub, enabling the company to provide high-value, specialized solutions tailored to local needs.
The IADC will integrate expertise from two critical business areas: lubricant additives (including high-performance additives, additive systems, synthetic base oils, and ready-to-use lubricants) and material protection products (focusing on antimicrobial, disinfectant, and preservation solutions).
Equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, the center will conduct advanced research on lubricant friction and wear, synthesis and testing of new materials, and the antimicrobial properties of coatings, emulsions, and other water-based chemicals. Clients will benefit from enhanced studies on lubricant performance, assessments of new materials, and evaluations of protective solutions.
The establishment of the IADC aligns with Lanxess's strategy to transform into a specialty chemicals company, focusing on niche markets and providing solutions for key applications such as sustainable mobility and consumer protection. India's growing industrial base and expanding consumer market make it an ideal platform for driving such advancements.
With a rich history in India, Lanxess operates across ten business units with approximately 800 employees. The company has two production centers: one in Gujarat focused on Rhein Chemie, liquid purification technologies, and material protection products, and another in Madhya Pradesh dedicated to flavors and fragrances.
In addition to this strategic expansion, Lanxess expects a strong financial performance for 2024. The company anticipates EBITDA for the fourth quarter to reach around €159 million, significantly exceeding market expectations of €130 million by 22%. For the full year, Lanxess forecasts non-recurring EBITDA to be approximately €614 million, a 20% increase over the previous year and at the upper limit of its earlier growth predictions.
This robust performance in Q4 was primarily driven by stronger-than-expected sales, particularly due to pre-orders from clients, mainly in the U.S., for specialty additives and consumer protection products.
