Canada Proposes New Residue Limits for Ethalfluralin and Pendimethalin in Food
On February 25, 2025, the Canadian Health Department issued notices PMRL2025-04 and PMRL2025-05, proposing amendments to the maximum residue limits for the pesticides ethalfluralin and pendimethalin in certain food products. The specific proposed changes are as follows:
- Ethalfluralin: Maximum residue limit of 0.15 ppm for angelica root.
- Pendimethalin: Maximum residue limit of 0.1 ppm for sunflower (revised) under Crop Subgroup 20B.
The public consultation period for these proposals will run from February 25, 2025, to May 11, 2025. Stakeholders and the public are encouraged to review the proposed changes and provide feedback during this timeframe.
These revisions reflect ongoing efforts to ensure food safety and manage pesticide residues in the Canadian food supply. As such, the proposed limits are crucial for both agricultural practices and consumer health, emphasizing the importance of regulatory oversight in maintaining food safety standards.
