L’Oréal Opens New $160 Million R&D Center in New Jersey

ECHEMI 2025-03-03

L’Oréal Group has completed its new North American Research and Innovation Center in Clark, New Jersey, USA. With nearly 250,000 square feet and an investment of $160 million, the center is the largest R&D center outside of France.

The center includes a 26,000 square foot modular laboratory, a consumer testing facility that can accommodate 400 participants, and an on-site mini-factory for scaling up final formulas before full production. It employs more than 600 scientists, engineers, and researchers and aims to collaborate with local academic institutions, biotech companies, and startups. Sustainable facilities include 10,000 solar panels that meet 70% of the center's energy needs, and an eco-reservoir for rainwater management.

The center was established to strengthen L'Oréal's R&D efforts in North America and support product innovation for its cosmetics and personal care brands. It also helps to enhance local research capabilities and promote regional economic development.
