BASF Signs Recycled Feedstock Offtake Agreement with Braven

ECHEMI 2025-03-13

BASF has signed a supply agreement for Braven PyChem with Braven Environmental, a market leader in advanced recycling. The two companies said this recycled feedstock derived from mixed plastic waste will partially replace fossil resources at BASF’s TotalEnergies Petrochemicals (BTP) plant in Port Arthur, Texas, USA. Under the agreement, Braven will supply BASF from its multi-unit plant planned to be built in Texarkana, Texas.

Braven PyChem is ISCC PLUS certified and manufactured using the company’s proprietary pyrolysis technology with feedstock from plastic waste streams generated from landfills and incineration.

BASF plans to use PyChem in its ChemCycling process, where a third-party audited mass balance approach is used to attribute the share of recycled plastics to certain products manufactured in the value chain. These products have the same properties as those manufactured from fossil feedstocks. According to BASF, customers will be able to further process them in the same way as conventionally manufactured products and use them in applications such as the construction or automotive industries.

“Addressing the plastic waste issue and creating a more circular economy requires innovation and collaboration across the value chain. This offtake agreement with Braven is an important step toward commercializing our Ccycled portfolio in North America,” said Christoph Gahn, Vice President of Circular & Sustainable Raw Materials Petrochemicals at BASF.

Jim Simon, CEO of Braven, added: “This collaboration will accelerate the deployment of our patented pyrolysis technology to help transform plastic waste into a valuable resource. With BASF’s global expertise and dedication to sustainability, we are well-positioned to drive meaningful change toward a circular economy and reduce the environmental impact of plastic waste.”
