Lotte Chemical Supplies Recycled Plastics for Samsung Galaxy S25 Enhancing Sustainability Efforts

ECHEMI 2025-03-18

On March 12, 2025, Lotte Chemical announced that it will supply recycled plastic materials for Samsung Electronics' latest smartphone, the Galaxy S25, marking a significant step in their collaboration on resource recycling systems.

Lotte Chemical is recycling waste from wafer trays used in semiconductor transportation by Samsung, transforming it into polycarbonate (PC) materials. This recycled material will be utilized in the SIM card tray, side buttons, and volume keys of the Galaxy S25 series.

Additionally, Lotte Chemical is providing plastic materials recovered from discarded fishing nets. These nets are primarily made from polyamide, known for its durability and strength, and are widely used across various industries. However, the accumulation of abandoned fishing nets poses a severe threat to marine ecosystems.

A representative from Lotte Chemical stated, “This collaboration is a result of our commitment to both environmental protection and corporate social responsibility. We aim to further enhance our global competitiveness by expanding the development of sustainable recycled materials.”
