BASF Launches Sustainable Elastoflex Products to Transform Furniture Industry

ECHEMI 2025-04-07

BASF is taking a significant step forward by expanding its product offerings in the furniture industry with the introduction of biomass-balanced Elastoflex® polyurethane systems. These innovative products have received REDcert2 certification, ensuring their sustainability credentials, including the recently certified facility in Livonia, Michigan.

Staci Wegener, BASF's Director of Polyurethane Business for North America, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainability, stating, “Supporting our customers in achieving their sustainability goals is our top priority.” With the new biomass-balanced products, customers can now replace fossil-based materials with renewable resources, potentially leading to a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of their products compared to traditional polyurethane foam systems.

The Elastoflex® polyurethane foam system is designed to produce flexible foams for various furniture applications, including seats, headrests, and armrests. Its unique structure ensures optimal comfort while providing ideal body support. The Elastoflex® BMB grade offers the same characteristics and performance as fossil-based counterparts, without requiring any changes to conventional processing methods.
