10 Year Guarantee Powers New Sustainability Pact Between AkzoNobel and Signify

AkzoNobel has announced a major expansion of its collaboration with global lighting giant Signify, aiming to jointly accelerate low-carbon, sustainable solutions for the built environment. Under the strengthened partnership, AkzoNobel’s Interpon F powder coatings will be widely adopted in Philips-branded LED outdoor lighting — products known for their durability and weather resistance.

Manufactured in China with green coating processes, these lighting units are treated with Interpon’s PowerShield technology, which promises a 10-year color and gloss retention warranty, even under harsh outdoor conditions. The coating was proven through rigorous 1,000-hour 3GU testing, retaining 90% of its gloss, showcasing excellent UV aging resistance and long-term color stability.

Signify product manager Yonglan Yi said the coating contributes to longer product life cycles, reducing resource use and supporting sustainable manufacturing. She emphasized the importance of partnering with AkzoNobel, who shares Signify’s vision for minimizing environmental impact through durable, high-quality components.

Jeff Jirak, AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings Global Director, added that the partnership illustrates how sustainability and innovation go hand in hand. Their collaboration was recently recognized in Signify’s 2024 SEED program, where AkzoNobel was awarded Best Sustainable Energy Innovation for its powder technology, AI-driven process optimization, and energy calculator tools.

Both companies are also members of the World Green Building Council’s Corporate Advisory Board and have set ambitious climate goals. AkzoNobel targets a 50% carbon reduction by 2030 (baseline 2018), while Signify aims for a 90% reduction and net zero by 2040 (baseline 2019).
