Mitsubishi Chemical Expands Flame Retardant Resin Production in China and France Investment in Billions of Yen

ECHEMI 2025-04-30

Mitsubishi Chemical announced plans to expand production capacity for flame-retardant functional resins in China and France. The company has invested billions of yen to add new production lines at its facilities in both countries. While specific capacity figures remain undisclosed, this move aims to meet the growing demand from the automotive and other industries.

The expansion focuses on polyolefin-based flame-retardant resins, critical for automotive cable protection materials. With the increasing electrification of vehicles, the demand for heat-resistant and flame-retardant materials has surged as more cables are required per vehicle.

This marks the first production of flame-retardant functional resins at Mitsubishi Chemical’s China plant. The facility will undergo upgrades, with new production lines expected to start operations soon. In France, the company plans to add a new line by January 2026, building on its existing production capabilities to further boost capacity.
