$470 Million Sanofi Acquisition Boosts Neurological Pipeline with Vigil Neuroscience Deal
Sanofi, a leading French pharmaceutical giant, has announced its $470 million acquisition of Vigil Neuroscience, a clinical-stage biotech company, in an effort to strengthen its neurological drug development pipeline. This strategic move includes an upfront payment of $8 per share for Vigil shareholders, along with a contingent value right (CVR) of $2 per share, tied to the success of a promising Alzheimer’s drug under development.
The acquisition is set to close by Q3 2025 and will provide Sanofi with access to VG-3927, an oral medication in preparation for Alzheimer’s treatment. Notably, Vigil’s monoclonal antibody program VGL101 will not be part of the deal, as it will return to US-based drugmaker Amgen.
Sanofi’s CEO emphasized the acquisition as a critical step in addressing neurological disorders and advancing innovative treatments. Earlier, the company committed $20 billion in US investments by 2030, aimed at enhancing research and manufacturing capabilities.
With this acquisition, Sanofi further solidifies its position as a global leader in neurological innovation while ensuring its 2025 financial outlook remains unaffected.
