Mitsui Chemicals Restarts TDI Plant After Accident Shutdown

ECHEMI 2025-09-19

On September 12, 2025, Mitsui Chemicals announced that its TDI production facility, which had been shut down due to an accident, has successfully restarted operations. Preparation for the restart began on September 3, and by September 11 the plant had resumed production. Although the exterior of the facility remained unaffected during the preparation phase, gas component leaks were detected once again, prompting the company to implement additional safety measures. The company confirmed that the facility is now running stably.

With the TDI plant back online, Mitsui also confirmed that its lens monomer production, which had been partially halted, will be fully restored around September 14. The Omuta Plant emphasized its continued commitment to safety, stating that it would prioritize risk management while accelerating full-scale recovery and production efforts.
