Granules India Q4 Profit Falls to ₹1.67 Billion Amid Pricing Pressures in US and Europe

ECHEMI 2025-06-01

On May 28, 2025, Granules India reported its financial results for the fourth quarter ending March 31, 2025. The company’s adjusted profit before exceptional items and tax declined to ₹1.67 billion ($19.6 million), impacted by intense competition and pricing pressures in its key North American and European markets.

Despite these challenges, Granules India recorded a 17% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to ₹1.52 billion, aided by a one-time insurance gain of ₹307.5 million.

The company derives approximately 66% of its revenue from North America and 19% from Europe. However, the generic drug market’s fierce competition and U.S. government initiatives to lower drug prices have pressured profitability in these critical regions.

Additionally, weak sales of its key product, paracetamol, contributed to a 1.6% decline in revenue to ₹11.76 billion. Granules India holds about 30% of the global market share for paracetamol, but price erosion and reduced demand have impacted revenues.

In response to these headwinds, the company is focusing on new product launches and capacity expansion to stabilize margins and aims for stronger growth in 2025.
