28 Chinese Companies Face FDA Automatic Detention in May 2025
Since May 2025, the U.S. FDA has placed products from 28 Chinese companies under automatic detention due to various compliance issues. Products include canned abalone, sweet potato snacks, plum-based goods, and plant-based creamers. Key reasons cited include labeling errors, pesticide residues, and unapproved additives.
Highlighted cases:
- Process control issues: Putian Huifeng’s canned abalone.
- Labeling errors: Products from companies in Shanghai, Guangdong, and Hong Kong.
- Sweeteners: Several items, including radish snacks and peanuts, were flagged for cyclamate.
- Prohibited substances: Rhodamine B and carbendazim were detected in some goods.
The most recent case involved Sichuan Maoge Food Development, whose diverse products were rejected for refusing an FDA inspection.
Under automatic detention, affected shipments can only be cleared after third-party lab testing and FDA approval. This process highlights the importance of strict compliance with U.S. import regulations to avoid delays and financial losses.
