COSMAX Develops Biodegradable Hot Melt Adhesive 90 Percent Degradable in 12 Months
COSMAX, the world's largest cosmetics ODM company, announced a breakthrough in sustainable packaging technology. In collaboration with Dongsung Chemical over two years, the company has successfully developed an eco-friendly hot melt adhesive based on PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoates). This innovation is designed to replace traditional petroleum-based adhesives widely used in cosmetic packaging like compacts and eyeshadow palettes.
Unlike conventional adhesives, which contribute to high CO2 emissions and volatile organic compound (VOC) pollution, the new bio-based adhesive offers significant environmental benefits. Lab tests confirm a 90% biodegradation rate within 12 months in natural environments such as soil and oceans, reducing its ecological footprint.
COSMAX has already initiated the transition to biodegradable adhesives and secured exclusive procurement rights to maintain a competitive edge. The company established a Packaging Science Laboratory in late 2022 to strengthen its R&D in eco-friendly materials, reinforcing its leadership in sustainable beauty solutions.
